Measuring Success

Dear Parents,

It is the time of year when those involved in high school life are immersed in the present and in planning for the next school year. For students this looks like attending elective town halls to learn about elective courses, it sounds like conversations with Ms. Geran, teachers and parents about course selections and academic requirements for post secondary plans and it feels like working hard and playing hard.

At FFCA High School we believe in the possibility of excellence for all students! All students receive course recommendations for the next school year. Courses should provide students with appropriate challenge and with great opportunity for success. Recommendations also take into consideration personal aptitude, work ethic, interests and passions of each student.

It is important to understand that to earn an Alberta High School Diploma a student requires;

  • 15 credits in English including 30-1 or 30-2
  • 15 credits in Social Studies including 30-1 or 30-2
  • 10 credits in Mathematics, at the grade 10 and 11 levels
  • 10 credits in Science, at the grade 10 and 11 levels
  • PE 10 and CALM 20
  • 2 additional grade 12 courses that total at least 10 credits (not English or SS)

*You need a minimum of 100 credits to get an Alberta High School Diploma

Our distinct FFCA high school program leads to;

  • full schedules, this means no open blocks
  • PE in grades 11 and 12
  • Leadership courses in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
  • A full student schedule, meaning that most FFCA students complete a grade 12 Math course, a grade 12 Science and a choice of electives.
  • All together this leads to FFCA students graduating with 123 credits!

On March 19, 2019 students will receive their personalized course recommendation letter. Please discuss as a family and encourage students to reach out to staff as needed. Signed forms should be returned to the school office by Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
